Chat Avatar App Revives Clubhouse Feature

Clubhouse, which was at the height of the pandemic restrictions and saw 10x month-on-month growth and then disappeared from the public conversation, has now morphed into a new voice messaging app.

The company has reinvented itself to “be more than a messaging app” with new voice-only group chats called “Chats.”

“We’re evolving Clubhouse into more of a messaging app with a big new update now available on iOS and Android. It’s designed to be more social than other messaging apps and a little Clubhouse-y,” Clubhouse said in a post Wednesday.

According to the company, Chat is just a voice group chat with your favorite people.

“To imagine chat, imagine if your group texts and Instagram stories met in the park, chatted for hours, became best friends and fell in love. 9 months later, they gave birth to a new way to connect – a way to hear your friends’ voices, meet their friends, and spend less time for writing. If ‘social messaging’ were a thing, it would be,” the company explained.

With Chats, you can push-to-talk, listen 2x, tap-to-skip, swipe-to-next-Chat, and slide into your friends’ VMs to chat privately. They are designed to be fast, fun and personal, according to the company.

While live audio rooms will continue to exist in Clubhouse, chats may encourage users to check in more often to hear from their friends rather than host a live chat at the time.
